Sink Remount & Re-Cut

Your undermount sink is pulling away from the countertop. Water is seeping into the cabinet below. The silicone is black with mold. This is one of the most urgent countertop repairs, and one of the most satisfying to fix.

About This Service

Undermount sinks are bonded to the underside of the countertop with adhesive and supported by clips or brackets. Over time (typically 5-10 years), the adhesive degrades from moisture exposure, the weight of water and dishes, and thermal cycling. The sink begins to pull away, creating gaps where water seeps through and damages cabinets below. Left unfixed, this causes mold growth, particleboard swelling, and eventual structural failure of the cabinet. Our remount process fully removes the sink, strips all old adhesive and silicone, inspects the countertop underside for damage, and re-bonds the sink using two-part epoxy and mechanical support clips for a permanent, waterproof connection. If you're upgrading to a different size sink, we also re-cut the countertop opening on-site.

Frequently Asked Questions

My sink moves when I push up on it. Is it going to fall?

It won't drop suddenly, but a moving sink means the adhesive bond has partially failed. Water is almost certainly seeping through the gap. We recommend fixing it promptly before water damages your cabinet interior.

There's black mold around the edge of my undermount sink. What should I do?

Black mold at the sink-countertop junction means water has been penetrating the seal. We remove the sink, fully clean and treat the mold, strip all old sealant, and remount with a watertight bond. The mold source is eliminated, not just covered.

I want a bigger farmhouse sink. Can you enlarge the hole in my granite?

Yes. We re-cut the countertop opening on-site using diamond blades. We measure your new sink precisely and cut to spec. The edges are smoothed and finished. This avoids the cost and disruption of replacing the entire countertop.

Why did my undermount sink come loose?

The most common causes are: adhesive degradation from constant moisture, inadequate original installation (silicone alone without clips), heavy sink materials pulling on the bond, and thermal expansion weakening the joint over time.

How long does a sink remount last?

Our remounts use two-part epoxy plus mechanical clips, a dual system that's stronger than most original installations. With normal use, it should last 15-20+ years.
